Everybody knows about the famous panama canal that allows ships to cross from the atlantic to the pacific ocean ( or vice - versa ! ) without having to face the ferocious cape Horn... But what one does not generally know is that Panama is also and above all an indispensable biological bridge between south and north america, with one of the world's most amazing biodiversity.

In spite its relatively small size ( more or less the size of Switzerland ) one can find in Panama almost all the different forms of tropical rainforests: dry rainforest, evergreen rainforest, premountain and mountain rainforest, cloud forest and mangroves.

Panama also has more than 1500 islands with wonderful beaches in the archipelagos of San Blas, Bocas del Toro, Las Perlas and the extraordinary island of Coiba, an Eden for divers and fishermen..
Eventually, Panama has a lot of what the much travelled through, neighbouring Costa Rica cannot offer: fascinating amerindian cultures....amerindians account for almost 10 % of total population and have been granted a status inside their ''comarcas'' ( territory ) that is unique in latin america...
